Guinea: 27 former senior officials, amongst them ex-President Alpha Condé, are alleged to have committed crimes like murder (e.g. Alpha Condé), illegal detentions, abductions, torture, rape and kidnapping. The alleged crimes seem to have been committed during “the final months of Mr Condé's time in office when the security forces were used to crush opposition to his third term” and “(d)ozens of people were shot dead”.

Climate change: Of the many forest restoration and planting programmes that have been launched in recent years to combat global warming, many have not delivered. For example, of the 100 million hectares of forests, grasslands, wetlands and vegetation to be restored by 2030 across Africa’s Sahel region by the Great Green Wall project launched in 2009, only 20 million hectares have been achieved. In Mozambique, where private companies have been allowed to plant large monoculture plantations as contribution to the forest landscape restoration initiative, there are indications that some companies have felled mature natural forests to replace them by plantations where the original forests are much better carbon sinks than the plantations. FAO is now launching a project to measure and report progress in forest restoration and planting meaningfully and transparently.
