Sierra Leone: At least 99 people have died and some 100 are being treated in hospitals and health centres after a huge explosion and a huge fire following the collision of a fuel tanker and a lorry at a busy junction in the eastern part of Freetown yesterday (Friday) night.

Ethiopia: The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) and seven other anti-government groups have formed an alliance. Despite recent successes of TPLF and OLA, “(t)he government in Addis Ababa has said it's on the brink of victory and will continue to fight what it calls an existential war.”

Cape Verde: Mamber of Parliament Damião Medina has been given a suspended 3-year sentence for violently assaulting his wife. The assault happened 4 years ago, but his immunity was only lifted this August – after a campaign by Cape Verdean Institute for Gender Equality (ICIEG) to this effect.

Congo-Kinshasa: Yesterday (Thursday) night, a fire in the National Museum of Gungu, a town 650km south-east of Kinshasa, has destroyed at least 8,000 items, some dating back to the end of the 18th century.
