Ethiopia/Tigray: Families – and I suppose lovers – kept apart during 18 months by the war, have finally been able to reunite. This BBC article tells about the joy and some of the emotional scenes which could be seen when flights resumed from Addis to Mekelle and vice versa.

Somalia: In Mogadishu opioid abuse is gaining ground amongst young women. It remains a taboo topic. But the death of a 22-year-old social media influencer in 2021 brought the problem out in the open. The article does not try to analyse why it is no longer khat and alcohol that is consumed but more dangerous drugs. Police have started to crack down on pharmacists – they are the ones that sell most of the drugs.
